A Question of Balance. Where is the Middle Road?

* A Question of Balance

A Question of Balance. Where is the Middle Road? The world has gone esque, and the martial arts is certainly no exception to this. We now live in a world of extremes.

And extremes are always dangerous, and history proves this. Most importantly the extremest of the world are once again reliving history which will lead to their demises.

And it will not be pretty.

A Question of Balance. Martial Art training has also gone to the extreme. SPORT is no long simply a part of the martial art, it is view as martial arts. However the results of this epic lie, the search for glory and fame, are PAIN, disabling body and brain injury. Out of balance thinking. Sport is about 1% of the martial arts training picture, The REAL THING, not the western culture lies of what it should be. And everything about the western culture is about FOR PROFIT, massive profit, not balanced profit.

A Question of Balance

Martial Art training needs to be balanced. And this balance will result in a student who is able to defend themselves, while not living in a fantasy of glory. And the first thing a student should be learning when it comes to self defense is how to escape a bad situation. There is also NO GLORY in a street fight. Only a MORON willing participates in such activities.

And if this offends, GOOD. You need to be offended.

Yes I am very hard about this. And this because I know that the martial arts and its teaching will be gone within another decade. Unless things change and change very fast. I am trying, but I am only one person.

And today's instant gratification, a trophy for everyone, does not help. Plus the idea that everything educational should be FREE, but you will pay Starbucks $5 for a coffee.

Everything is a A Question of Balance.

I just hope this article on A Question of Balance makes you think.

Because in the FAILED western culture there is not much of this going on anymore. If at all.

What are Centers? Hidden Teachings of the Masters of Old.

* What are Centers?

What are Centers? Hidden Teachings of the Masters of Old.  The Western Culture is dead, time to bury it. And in my view so is the Western Cultures view on martial arts. Or should I say obsession with sports??

The knowledge of the concepts of centers begins and ends for most martial artists with the idea you need to strike and protect the center line of the body.

What are Centers?: This is about 1% of what centers are all about. And it is far beyond any article on a blog to teach this concept.

Centers are an essential element in the study of Body Mechanics. There are centers for the self, for the opponent, as well as projected centers. Often times martial artists when they train are not aware at all of their centers. And this is reflects in their Kara and Self Defense also.

What Are Centers

Centers are a place on the body in which we focus our movement and balance. When we are out of our centers, then we are open to attack and counter attack much easier.

When you are behind your center then there is control. Often times in the arts motion is not understood, which makes the defender vulnerable. Always remember, back in the day, the martial arts were not sports. Size at one time did not matter, and gender or sex also did not matter. It was only the knowledge, understanding of the knowledge and the training that mattered.

The martial arts world is very far away today from its roots. And if you study the history of the different martial arts you can see this. All the original martial art were not based on techniques, they were based on concepts.

Just like the book the Art of War is. Warfare is not based on a new tank or gun, but on strategies. I have even written a book on this called Kosho Ryu Street Strategies: The Art of Escape, But I have had people actually say to me there must be an easier way.

What are Centers? in Conclusion

What are Centers in Conclusion

What are Centers: The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again expecting a different result.

And this must mean I am insane as I have been beating this drum for 2 decades and most people play with the idea and move on.

If they moved on to learning I would be thrilled. But they rather retire to the local Pizza Hut or Facebook to discuss their glory days when they were champions. I did that tournament thing too. But I do not spend endless hours talking about it.

Why?

I rebuilt a car engine once too and that does not matter either. What matters is learning all your life and sharing that knowledge with those who are heads up enough to want to learn more.

Thank you for reading What are Centers? I hope you found value in this article.

What do you think the most important value is in the martial arts today?

* most important value

What do you think the most important value is in the martial arts today? Do you even think, aside from perhaps teaching children, that values are included in training?

In the broken Western Culture most big corporations and certainly all governments and medical science are devoid of values.

And what the "education" system teaches is totally DEVOID of values

Most Important Value

If I had younger children they would be home schooled. Why? Because their teaching is based on ideologies not values.

To me the most important value is to "do no harm." This is why back in the day when I operated a Dojo our slogan was a Jame Mitose quote, "In true self defense there is no body contact."

And in the Dojo that bears my name today children are first taught something not taught in 99% of Dojo's, this is the Art of Escape. The initial core teachings of Kosho Ryu are to do not harm, to escape.

Most Important Value

What stops people from wanting to learn this? There is no glory in it! Or at least they do not think there is. The highest form of any martial art is this. It is not championships or belt ranks. It is to be able to protect yourself if needed, but above all else DO NO HARM, unless there is no other choice. I do not see this anywhere in life today!

Checkout my Introduction to Kosho Ryu Course. And if you use the promotion code 'kosho' at the checkout you get $20 off the list price. Learn this, and teach it in your Dojo or to any and all students.

And if you prefer the written word over pictures I also have a book on the subject called Kosho Ryu Street Strategies: The Art of Escape, No one ever wins a fight, and there is no glory in victory. I have been there.

Most Important Value

Martial Art training is not about glory. it is not about Hall of Fame dinners and the recent attempts to create heroes out of martial artists. Why do we as humans feel the need for hero worship? On FB every week there are more pictures of black tie events where these people go to kiss each other asses.

But are they training weekends? Are the "top level" martial artists try to encourage the public to train or offer free seminars and workshops to teach self defense?  I was awarded on of these 13 year ago and did not attend because i felt it was a pay for play endeavor. There is NO HONOR in this. What is the most important value?

Most Important Value in Conclusion

most important value in Conclusion

Yes this is a rant. I do not know about you but I am sick of the virtue signally bullshit, from people with ZERO virtue.

One lady, whom I once did admire for her skills is not relegated to see how many different angle she can show her boobs off on Facebook for attention.

This is sad, pathetic and childish. I wonder what she will do when Facebook goes bankrupt, which is coming soon. Their own corruption has caught up with them. And many will receive jail sentences for their crimes.

What are the most important value of martial arts? They are many, like integrity, courtesy, self control. But the values come from TRAINING, not Halls of Fame or Trophies. They are distractions, shinny object that keep you from seeing what is really important.

Time for the arts to act their age and show some dignity. Enough said.

Thank you for reading about the Most Important Value.

How Effective is your Training? Methods to Enhance Results

* How Effective is your Training?

How Effective is your Training? When you are training for self defense, which is usually in the form of Waza or techniques what are you covering? Are you focused on an attack and your response to the attack?

Is it repeated over and over again for muscle memory?? Can you pull the technique off with ease for any training partner you have?

Are you "free sparring" thinking, yeah this will work!

How Effective is your Training?

Do you really think a street attack is posturing between 2 people?? Sounds like a competition to me. Do you alternate unarmed vs weapons doing this? There are no rules on the street.

When you train in self defense Waza when do you move? What motion of the attacker is your response based up? How far away are they? How did you decide what the response will be? Did they punch, right or left hand?? What if they kicked? It was predetermined?

How Effective is your Training?
  • Techniques ONLY work when the opponent is NOT trying to hit you.
  • Free Sparring ONLY works when the opponent is trying to make points, not KILL YOU.
  • Kosho ONLY Works when the opponent is TRY to KNOCK YOUR HEAD OFF or KILL YOU.

Recently I had a comment on a Facebook post in regard to a pressure point article I have on my blog. The person making the comment stated that there are issues with getting the result you seek on the street unless you use this "special method" devised by a certain instructor. I will not name names here, because it is disrespectful to do so. However the man making the comment is incorrect.

Why do I saw this? Because while this method is effective in a demonstration or Dojo setting they are not taking account for a moving target, a violent moving opponent in their training. There is nothing new under the sun. But martial artists like to focus on the new shinny object rather than the teachings of old that are proven by history.

How Effective is your Training?

How Effective is your Training in Conclusion

How Effective is your Training? in Conclusion

How Effective is your Training? What is your training like? I recently had a 1st Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do contact me because he has discovered how little he knows.

And this is wonderful! After almost 40 years I am so excited at what there is left to learn.

No one has all the answers. But a big problem is that their EGO also blurs the questions.  Thank you for reading "How Effective is your Training?"

I Actually Teach Martial Arts, I DO not SHOW Off

* I Actually Teach Martial Arts

I Actually Teach Martial Arts, I DO not SHOW Off! Most of those who follow my teachings tend to be over 40 years of age, which honestly is perfect. I even have some in their 80's.

And the main reason I believe people follow what I teach is because I actually do teach! I noticed this especially in kyusho Jitsu to be lacking.

Many of the "instructors" are performing in order to book seminars. Which is fine.

But if you have attended seminars did you learn or was it a show?

Back in 2010 I had a seminar booked in Bucharest, and one in Lisbon Portugal. I had finished the one in Bucharest and inquired about my ticket to Lisbon. They decided to cancel in favor of a much higher profile instructor. OK fine, I stayed extra in Romania which I did not mind at all.

I Actually Teach Martial Arts, not SHOW Off

When I got back to Canada (note I do not called that home) I was contacted by the guy in Lisbon to tell me how great the seminar was!! I said "awesome! What did you learn??" "Well we saw...." was his reply. Yeah, all that money to "see."

Everything I do is about teaching, and all I do is study. I have no "job" as I am unemployable. Now I released a new book, and it is getting harder to release Kyusho Jitsu eBooks as I have covered everything. But this is on a special topic. One that is critical to study pressure points or not.

That is body mechanics. The book Kyusho Jitsu's Principle of Body Mechanics.

Martial Arts needs to be about training, and then sharing the learning, actually teaching. Often times instructors and I use the work instructors like to keep things from the students to make sure they are the best on the floor.

My job is to make my students BETTER then me. Otherwise I am a failure. I Actually Teach Martial Arts!

I Actually Teach Martial Arts in Conclusion

I Actually Teach Martial Arts in Conclusion

I Actually Teach Martial Arts: The martial art world has lost its direction. Sport is fine if it is relegated to what it actually is. Nothing of importance.

It is a micro fraction of training. Today it is ALL. But then the Western Culture is a terrible mess too.

I believe we as martial art teachers, not instructors or professional counters have a sacred duty. That is to keep true to the core teaching and address martial arts as a way of life. Not an activity or pastime like hockey or football. And certainly NOT just an after school [indoctrination camps] activity for children.

Thank you for reading this article called I Actually Teach Martial Arts.
