Therefore in my view we should view the study as to do no harm unless their is no other choice. Hence I have a story for you below.

Back in 2000 I was involved with a seminar in Toronto presented by the World Budo Alliance. And at this day long seminar we had several session presenters. The grand finale was a man from the USA named Nimr Hassan. He made claim to be a student of James Mitose, which was true. Most important to note there was also a claim he was the only living student of Mitose, which is false. 

However his history was very interesting. But before I go into that I want to talk about his seminar.

Thus Hassan presented to the students at the seminar 2 very simple blocks. He asked everyone to do these blocks full power for about 5 minutes, to make sure we were comfortable with them. 

After this he had us made partners. So our partner would attack one punch, followed by a second punch. And we would then respond with the 2 blocks Hassan had taught us. After this was complete he then added. Now that you have successfully dealt with the two incoming punches do whatever technique you like from your own root system.

Therefore after this was done he assessed our techniques. And the techniques I did were devastating. I was trying to make a name for myself internationally and there were some high profile people there. Hassan commented on how very good my techniques were. I was thrilled!

In front of everyone he had me repeat the scenario. After he asked me what was the best case and worst case scenario for what I did to the attacker. Best case I broke the attackers neck, worse case I ended his life.

He the looked at me and said, “so he punched you twice and you killed him. Can you live with that?” I was speechless. “Because you can do harm does not give you the right too.” A great Kosho Teaching a Life Lesson.

Escaping a Paranoid Schizophrenic

I had parked out back in a city lot. After I got my information I was headed to my van. At this point I saw a very large man, tall, perhaps 6'6" harassing a young Asian woman. She was terrified as he grabbed at her. Then he saw me, and his attention changed immediately. I will be honest, this man scared the hell out of me. I had been training in Hapkido at this point for 11 years, and I was a 3rd Dan Black Belt. And NONE of that meant anything at this moment. 

When he saw me, he yelled "yeah you stay there!!" He then began to move towards me. Not fast, but not slow either. I had to walk towards him, then once I cleared the building cut across to my van. And I was on ICE. I knew my vast kicking skills were worthless. I could box, but this man was a monster. And something was wrong with him. Thank God I made it to my van and opened the door, got in and locked it before he reached then van and began to pound on the window.

I drove down the alley and stopped to call the police on my cell. Back then I had a big old cell phone I got from Radio Shack because I was running a Dojo for my teacher. So I reported him to police, left my number and went home. Later that day I got a call from the police to thank me for the fast report. The man, who was a paranoid schizophrenic had walked out of the psych ward at Hotel Deau Hospital. He was dangerous. It took 3 police officers to subdue him.

I knew that moment my training was inadequate. Therefore I told my teacher of the incident and we did more Waza. But that was no solution. I wish I had knew then what I know now. Most of all I was trained in an incomplete reactionary martial art. Hapkido is a great art and style. But like all others is not complete.

Real Life Encounters: Venezuela: I was in the country about 10 days and had a great time. But the poverty was earth staggering. And poverty creates desperation, and desperate people do desperate things.  

My then wife had not been home in years therefore she decided to stay longer. This meant that I had to get from Valencia to Caracas, which was a very dangerous trip. No one wanted to make the drive again so I was put on a plane.

There are 2 airports in Maiquetia, the Simon Bolivar International Airport and the National Airport. There is 500 meters between them, and this is and outside pathway. I had to walk this distance. 

I was told when I left the national airport to RUN not walk to the international airport. And to stop for no one, under any circumstance. Therefore this is what I did. But so did everyone else there that morning. Upon entering the terminal I was immediate approached by a young man wishing to help me.

My response was, "gracias no!" Always be polite. He was sizing me up. This was obvious and a part of my real life encounters in Venezuela

I was early, it was 6:45 and I could not check in at Delta before 7:00. So I walked towards a board with some information on it. And I was not sure if I had to pay airport taxes or if Delta paid them.

As I was walking I was approached by another man stating he was "immigration." Yeah, no! He was not wearing a uniform, did not have ID on his body. He DEMANDED to see my passport immediately or I would be arrested.

Most importantly I then adjusted my angle to face 5 on the Octagon. But I did this with my lower base. I replied to him strongly, "let me see your ID NOW!" He reached down and grabbed my left arm with his right hand, extending it to reach me as I controlled the distance between us. He threated "you are under arrest! Come with me!"

And I moved to the left, to 5 on the Octagon and pulled in at TW-11 with my right and dislocating the elbow. He screamed and ran out of the terminal. A police officer watched the entire incident and laughed walking away. I checked in and went to immigration.

They told me what I did was the smart. The man would have taken my passport and run from the terminal. If I pursued I would have been attacked by a gang, robbed and likely killed. If not they would sell my identity.

 I went back in December the same year, Spent Christmas and New Years with her family. Had no issues that time. But they never let me out of their sight again.

At this point I had been training in Kosho about 5 years. And because it is a preparatory first, reactionary second training I had the presence of mind to do what was needed. Not based on some fantasy I had from my training. But rather based on what the opponent was DOING and planning to do.

Self Defense Encounters

This is a group of people know in the west as "Gypsies", however correctly they are "Roma" people. But I will take a moment to teach some facts to overcome a false narrative in the west.

The Gypsies are originally from North India and migrated to Europe via the middle east. They are called Gypsies because it was first believed upon entering Europe they had come from Egypt. They entered Romania in the 1400's.

Romanians, and this is an ENGLISH term traces their ancestry back almost 2000 year to the native Dacians and the Romans who invaded the country. Romanians are perhaps the last direct decedents of the Romans, with the exception of naturally the Italians.

The Romanian language and Italian have many similarities, but are not the same language. Romanian has a Slavic influence to it. It is a beautiful language and a challenge to learn. I am fortunate to be immersed in it.

Now I point this out only because the Roma are only about 3.4 percent of the population, so no Romanians are not Gypsies as the incorrect stereo type states. And I do not suggest saying that to a Romanian either.

There is also slanderous statements going around that Romanian women are "easy".  And that is FAR from truth. To my mind they are the most beautiful women in the world, but easy NO. Stereotypes are simply another form of EGO.

The world today loves to make judgement based on 'feelings.' But the truth is FACTS do not care about your feelings. 

My world, the majority of friends, and MY PACK are Romanian.

Back to the story of Self Defense Encounters.

One gentleman on the bus for some reason took exception to me being there. I was standing sideways looking out the window. He came an punched me in the shoulder, then stepped back like he was egging me to engage.

I glanced around and saw all his friends holding their noses. I realized I had no allies here. I replied to him that I did not understand his words. He was speaking his language, I did not understand it. It was not Romanian.

A few minutes later he repeated his action. I positioned my self in such a way as to remain behind my chosen center, in this case my right shoulder, and use the 4 Wall Concept to restrict his motions.

He got off the bus before me with his friends. It was funny because he slapped the window to try to intimidate me. I was not intimidated to begin with. My life was not in real danger, unless I did something stupid.

And this is because I ONLY fight if there is NO OTHER option. If he escalated on the bus it would go bad as half the bus was Romanians, and they would not have backed him. And they were watching.

If escalated the "Brasov politia" would have become involved and it would have gone bad for him.

But i took the higher ground. Why? Because it is the right thing to do. Escape first, fight second. I did see him again a few months later in town. Our eyes locked and he turned and walked away. Perhaps he had a BIG fight with the Mrs's that day. Who knows, and it does not matter. 

This is a very uncommon story for me in Romania. I have had much more, many more BAD encounters in my former country of Communist Canada.

I can walk down the streets of even Bucuresti (Bucharest) at 2:00 am and be safe. Try that in Winnipeg. I love 3:00 am walks with the Huskies in the city. I am often stopped by people still out wishing to meet them.

Self Defense Encounters is part of many people lives. It is how we deal with them that matter most.

And I do not judge this man's culture, Roma, based on him. I have met MANY very kind Roma people in Brasov. 

Was he and his friends prejudice against me because I am a foreigner? Perhaps, but that is really not my business. Nor do I care. Others opinions and reaction to me are not my business, it belongs to them only.

So today you received a Kosho Ryu lesson. First you learned truth and facts, not narratives about my chosen country, the country I love.

About another resident culture within the country, and about conflict and how Kosho teaches preparatory arts and not reactionary art. I was prepared. But have you started the journey yet?

Cycle of Life

Many do not want to face this and hide their heads in the sand. But that apathy was the cause of the failure to begin with.  

When good men do nothing evil flourishes. And it is certainly flourishing today. In the form of lying mass media, corrupt governments, corrupt medical science and almost every corporation imaginable involved in horrible crimes.

But the Angel of Death is coming for all those mentioned as they implode under the weight of their own lies and corruption. You can only bend the natural laws of the world so long before she pushes back. Now I could name names, but why? If you are reading this you know the names. If you are on the "other" side you are part of the falling. And in my few no amnesty for idiots.

Cycle of Life

The economic system that these people have pushed and corrupted is failing. Because it is based on a LIE. Lies always reveal themselves.  And the Western Culture needs to die. Because then i can be replaced with something new, and something functional. Cycle of Life is painful, but new life will spring from the corpses of the old ways. 

The pain cannot be denied, it must be felt. Just like when a loved one dies you have to go through the process. There are many in this world who refuse to wake up. And thus the world coming will not be for them. "There are none so blind as those who "WILL" to not see."

And these for the most part are the people who have abdicated their health to those who make trillion off them remaining ill. Inject untold amounts of poison into their bodies because a corrupt and lying organization, looking only at their bottoms line demands it. These people will not survive long sadly. 

I was many years ago before I renounced their system told by a "doctor" that extraordinary good healht was a sign of serious illness and I should "concent" to massive tests. Thirty some years later I am in even better health. Yet, no one asks me why? 

History Repeats - Cycle of Life

And this Cycle of Life and death is once again just a repeat of history. Because rather then learn people are more interested in being right.  I have been waving this flag for 20 years. But I do not want to be right, I wish I was wrong. 

A new and better way awaits us all, but we must change the course of the ship and head in that direction.  We have been lied to and told we must swim upstream, work hard as a slave for little of no wage, yet what we want is all downstream. Time to change course.

A New Paradigm - Cycle of Life

I got some bad news yesterday from a dear friend, who was talking on the phone with a high end martial arts dojo operator. And I will not mention names here. But the martial arts industry in the USA has pretty much collapsed under the the corruption of the fraudulently governments who believe they are kings. But hey that was their plan, destroy the world.

Now when there is death new birth can begin. The industry can come back stronger in time, and teach things of value. I was in the commercial martial arts industry and during bad times people quit. Why? Because getting a coffee from Starbucks, in my case to Tim Horton's, has more value. But doing the recession of 2008 I lost few view and had one of my best years. 

When people quit during hard times, but the drive thru is full what does this tell you? You are an activity and not very important. I have had students with me for as much as 30 years. One is moving to Romania to join my team.

What does this tell you? Is it because I am a world champion? NO! Or I am the greatest teacher? NO! What I teach has VALUE. 

Cycle of Life in Conclusion

I teach a complete martial art system. And it does not call for you to forget what you have learned thus far. I have men and women with over 40 years following me today. Below is an opportunity to begin the journey free.
